• 号泣ごうきゅう — to cry loudly
• 感泣かんきゅう — weeping from deep emotion
• 哀泣あいきゅう — sorrowful weeping
• 悲泣ひきゅう — mournful tears

The left-side radical 氵 (water) and the right-side phonetic element 立 combine to suggest “tears flowing.” The kanji vividly conveys emotional expression through crying. It’s one of the first emotional characters children learn in elementary school.

子供こどもが泣ないています。
The child is crying.

彼かれは 感動かんどうして泣なきました。
He cried from being deeply moved.

映画えいがを見みて号泣ごうきゅうした。
I cried my eyes out watching the movie.
